I've lived here for 4 years. Let me just say I've been mostly satisfied with the experience. The location is perfect and it's pet friendly. Maintenance is generally at your door a few minutes after you report an issue during the day. However, I do have
one caveat. If you rent here please be very organized with respect to your financial records, because the landlord isn't with regards to his own. Randomly he'll mention you owe rent from several months or even years ago. The amount of rent heβll say you owe can range from one month to several, or in terms of 200-2000 dollars. He'll doubt you if you say you did(as if you could forget forking over a huge chunk of your income in months past). The only way out of this is to trudge through your bank statements and find proof you paid for the month in question. Heβll blame it on his bank or computer, and youβll have the satisfaction of being more responsible and organized than your landlord. Some tenants have had horror stories about trying to get canceled checks from banks they stopped using long ago. And this is not just me. Several of my neighbors have reported similar stories. The only reason I can think of for this is either intimidation, or counting on college students to be disorganized so he can get more money out of them (or their parents). If you do pay by cash save your receipts. Money orders are a good option too; just keep the receipt stubs safe and readily available as you would other important documents. If all else fails, contact one of the lawyers downtown to write him a strongly worded letter. It may cost you 100-200 bucks for this representation, but the landlord will probably back down and you won't bee on the line for several hundreds or thousands of dollars you've already paid, and you'll already have a relationship with a lawyer if problems persist. If you can look past all this, itβs not such a bad place then.
Its a shame though, the landlord used to be extremely laid back.
I rented from summer '04 through spring '08.
