This is sort of a transition neighborhood. There are very few seniors. Most students who move here only stay for a year. It's mostly full of loud and rebellious juniors and sophomores who love to drink, party, and sleep very little... and do it all over again. Weekends here are Thursday through Saturday. Every week. If you think nothing is going on, you're not looking hard enough... there are just under a thousand students here. It is not recommended to live here if you intend on being a scholarly individual. However, the location is one of the best. Many of the utilities are paid for, including water. Ashby had one of the best rent/utilities values along Port Republic. Remember, there is an Old Ashby which are the blue buildings in the front. They are $10/mo. cheaper, I believe, and have the best location. Downfall: they are the original Ashby buildings, and are thus older. Not better, just older. Ashby was recently bought by the lady who owns Forest Hills Manor, and is treating us now the same as them. Parties are being cracked down on harder and more frequently, and you can only have certain things on your porch or you will be fined. If there is too much trash/cigarette butts around the building, we all get fined. The old owners were definitely better, and as a result a lot of people are leaving. They do not care, because of JMU's rising student population. They will always have students to fill the gaps. Parking can be tough, but there is always a spot somewhere. The tow trucks do a good job of scaring off the kids who don't have tags to park here. I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

Good management, individual leases a plus. Location to JMU wasn't bad at all -- pretty close to campus. Ok, positives out of the way -- do NOT, do NOT come to Ashby Crossing, unless you like loud music 24/7 and mass partying. Ashby Crossing is JMU's party location, people from all over Harrisonburg will come to party. It starts Thursday nights and continues until 5AM Monday morning. During daylight hours, expect a high chance of your neighbor either playing incredibly loud music, or setting off fireworks inside their apartment. In short, if you want anything resembling a quiet stay, this is not the place to be. If you want the party scene, enjoy. Personally, it was far too much for me to deal with, I've found a new location for next year. I rented from fall '06 through summer '07. ...
