Not worth your money. The office never responds to emails. They find ways to charge you and don't communicate their late fees to you very clearly. There is no online payment system which is completely ridiculous considering we live in 2016. $380/mo for a tiny SHARED room is so over priced. Apartments are falling apartment - broken light fixtures, doors that don't close or even LOCK properly, broken fridges, broken dishwashers, paper thin walls. Don't count on maintenance to fix anything for you. Don't waste your money here...there are hundreds of other places you could live in Provo that are much nicer. This place is awful. Maintenance takes decades to come fix the smallest problem, they are understaffed. The quality of the brand new dishwashers and fridges must have come from Goodwill they are so cheap. The apartments are falling apart and waaaay overpriced. This place is disgusting. Don't waste your money. You can find a much better place for $365 a month--you can get a private room in Provo for that. There are NO private rooms at the Colony, don't believe what they write on their website. The landlord does NOT know what they are doing... I rented from fall 2014 through fall 2015. ...

I lived here from Fall 2013 to Winter 2014. The Colony is a great place to live if you want to have a social life, but other than that, not so much. The entire time I've lived here I've either been in a relationship or been engaged, so the social aspect isn't as appealing to me. Everybody is nice, but they're mostly BYU students, with some UVU students, so who is really surprised. The price is horrible, though. For maybe $15 more, I could've easily lived in a much nicer apartment, built during my lifetime (or even my parents'), and had a private room. Really, honestly, what you pay for is definitely the social life. The Colony is popular enough that they're able to slowly raise the price of rent up over the years and there's still a waiting list to get in. People want to come here because they think it's social, the parking doesn't suck, having a pool is kinda nice, and it's not too far from BYU. However, if you're not looking to shell out at least $350 a month Fall/Winter, look elsewhere. If you don't care much about the social scene (and even if it's not because you're in a relationship, there's nothing wrong with that), then you really, honestly have no reason to live here. There are much cheaper places here in Provo that are more than suited for your needs. I will say this, last semester the internet was terrible, and now this semester it has gotten way better. I'm generally able to manage around 15-20mbps (not Google fiber, but better than free "Google fiber" anyway), which, for someone who has a reasonable amount of data needs (and not JUST netflix), this isn't too bad. ...

Awesome, awesome place. The people are social but down-to-earth. I would be staying but I was an idiot and didn't get a contract in time. But I definitely will be back as soon as I can! I rented from fall 10 through summer 11.

The Colon (yes, The Colon is how it was known for most of the year due to a prank on the sign on 500N) is a decent place to live. Pros: Both wards are fantastic. Most people are pretty social and outgoing. Bathrooms have recently been redone. Big front rooms (upstairs more so) and big bedrooms (only downstairs... upstairs are tiny). There is also a pool, spa, bar b que and almost always enough parking. Cons: Management can be a pain. I wanted to save on our heating/cooling bills and asked for them to replace the insulation around our front door, since it was non existent, for the entire time that I lived here. They always said they would do it but never did. However, they were good about replacing our garbage disposal, leaky sink, windows that were not sealed, and a couple other random fixes. They cut my bike lock at the end of the semester, so make sure to get your bike out of there on move out day. There is really no good place to store bikes, which is really frustrating in the Winter. Internet has supposedly been updated to fiber optic, yet i was unable to sample it. Cleaning checks are pretty serious, but honestly, keep your freaking place clean in the first place. Cable is no go unless the cable company didn't unhook it from the previous tenants from long ago. This to me is a huge drawback, since EVERYWHERE now basically has free cable. However, you could just use Netflix streaming or another similar service, assuming the new internet is fast enough. Another big thing for me was plowing the streets in the winter. Since the road is a privately owned by the owners, it doesn't get plowed by the city... so basically get ready to get stuck at home during every major storm until they plow. I bought my own snow shovel to get my car out every day for work during the winter break and during every storm. Overall: The Colon is a pretty cool place to live. The location isn't too bad (although there are better), management is average at best, wards are great, upstairs apartments have tiny rooms that get suuuuper hot in summer, downstairs apartments have great bedrooms that stay nice and cool, kitchens aren't too bad, parking is ample and people are awesome. I really liked the Colony. I wasn't too fond of the distance from Campus, and the price in general, but it was very social and the four person rooms had a ton of space! I hated the laundry situation there. Cost me a lot just to get my stuff dry, then I would have to dry it more afterward. Ridiculous. But the people are friendly in the office, and there's always parking (which they never checked, so friends could stay over and not have to worry). Maintenance was fast! I loved that. They are old and it's hard to share a shower with 6 people but the front rooms are spacious. There are 3 different sizes of bedrooms and you all pay the same which is lame if you get the super small shared room. The ward is great and it's really social but it's also pretty young (I was on the older end of the girls at 22) The landlord is awful and management is even worse which is why I moved out. I couldn't stand how they treated us like little kids and had stupid rules that didn't make any sense. It also I think is too expensive for what you end up getting... although it's really fun during the spring and summer. But I was tired of managment and cinderblock walls and a tiny room and busted AC and no internet and no cable. I rented from fall '07 through summer '08. ...

I would recommend this place to anyone. The best part about it is definitely the very social atmosphere and amazing ward. These are by far the biggest apartments you can get for this price. The place is a dump for what I paid. Things are always breaking (if not broken already), everything is stained, you don't get cable which means you don't get TV since the roof-antennae are busted. Oh and the internet really does go out all the time (just imagine that you're pretty much ready to crash at night, you've already got on gym shorts and a t-shirt and your contacts are out when you decide to jump on your computer to add some finishing touches on a project due the next morning, only to realize that the internet is down YET AGAIN and you'll have to get dressed again, etc. to go to the library). It's impossible to get the place well-lit at all. The walls are paper thin, and the rooms vary in size yet the price remains the same across the board. There's only one shower for 6 people, and the rooms have these obnoxious built-in "desks" (really just a slab of sealed wood/plastic supported by 2 metal braces drilled into the wall) that you can't move. I was in the smallest room of the 3, and the desks there prevented you from moving the bed at ALL. So when I tried to move the bed that was too long for the room (and thus prevented the door from closing all the way), it took everyone in the apartment to squeeze it out. The management are your friends before you sign the contract and don't give a crap once you're in. Nothing but parallel street parking (not nearly enough space here) and terribly-lit lots in back which means you have to walk all the way around to the front to get in the apartment. Almost forgot -- there's no built-in washer/dryer units and the laundromat they have there has ~4 new dryers (which cost something like 25 cents for 15 minutes) and a bunch of old, ratty washers that cost a dollar a load. Not to mention it's tucked away from all the buildings in the middle of the complex, and they're only open till -- I believe -- 9 or 10. I guess for some people this isn't a huge deal, but for me, having to walk down the street every two weeks (sometimes during the dead of winter), lugging a big 'ol load of laundry and shelling out 7 bucks each time just isn't worth the price tag, especially with all the other shortcomings. I could maybe live with all of that for 200 a month, but for only 50-75 dollars more a month there are plenty of places built **after** the 1960's that are actually in good condition, have competent management, covered or at least nearby parking, have private rooms where you can actually store your stuff, and come with added incentives (namely cable and high-speed internet that ACTUALLY works). This has to be one of the worst places-for-the-dollar in Provo, and it makes me wonder how on Earth they still get people to live here. Sure, the people were really nice, but it's BYU! No matter where you live people are going to be sweet, kindred spirits that smile all the time. Besides, even if the people who you stayed with one year were really nice, that doesn't say anything about the people who will choose to move out and move in the next year. The real reason to live there is the people, the owner is a retard and puts in ridiculous policies (like if you fail a monthly cleaning check you get charged $5), but the couple that manages it is cool. The internet sucks and goes out all the time, our air conditioning can't keep the temperature below 80 (downstairs, upstairs is probably 90).
