Parking: Horrible. We were living in an apartment inside the complex (facing the pool) and it was probably a 3 minute walk from our parking spots. That might not seem that bad but think if you have two loads of groceries. That means it takes you 6 minutes just to take one load in and get back out to your car. There was never really a problem with available spots but your friends and family will get towed if they do not park in the visitor parking. If visitor parking on your side of the complex is full, management expects them to park in a far parking lot and take an even longer hike in the dark to your apartment. Maintenance: When we moved in, our bedroom door wouldnt close. It took four work orders (four weeks!) to finally get someone in. I finally handed it directly to the apartment manager, not the leasing agents. The second time we had a problem (our heater wouldnt turn off at the right temperature) it took a week and a half. The maintenance man is really really friendly. When we were moving, he let us borrow the dolly (since carrying a heavy couch and mattresses a tenth of a mile to the parking lot is slightly difficult). He was the best employee I met there. Construction: Unfortunately, we chose the 6 months that the Lexington was getting a face lift. Most of the construction is over now, but they did not have any qualms about working early on Saturday mornings. Also, unfortunate, the construction was mostly cosmetic. For instance, they added windows to the 2nd and 3rd story apartments on the outside of the complex but only on the units facing Holleman and Anderson. They dont really care about adding more windows, just making it appear like there are windows by placing the extras on the outside of the complex. Another example is the clubhouse. They did a pretty nice job on the outside and inside but they stuck the old washers and dryers back in. The washers continued to overflow, which meant that you got to walk through an inch of water to get to your mailbox. Who cares about new paint if the equipment you really need (since the units dont have washer/dryers) dont work properly? Noise: The community is pretty quiet. We didnt really ever talk to our neighbors and they didnt bother us. However, the walls are pretty thin and if our upstairs or next door neighbor decided to sleep with the TV on, it was difficult to go to sleep when we could hear muffled dialogue and music. ALSO, we woke up at midnight once to a van with a generator outside our window (remember that we are at least 100 feet from the nearest parking lot). When my husband went outside to ask what they were doing, they were cleaning carpets. At midnight?? It went on for an hour. I cannot say how often this happens. Grounds: Remember that long walk from the sidewalk? Try doing it after it has rained. The sidewalks are exceptionally muddy and nothing is done about it. We walked through mud and inches of water for at least a day after it rained. I actually went and looked for bricks as stepping stones so that we wouldnt have to step onto someones porch to avoid the larger puddles but they were pushed out of the way. The sidewalks are slanted and curvy and it was a difficult move into and out of the apartment. They do have people pick up trash weekly, so the stays pretty clean. Safety: Pretty low score on this one. There are some seedy characters that hang around sometimes. One morning we woke up to a barefoot woman banging on our door asking for money. At one point, I also discovered on my own that there had been an armed robbery a few weeks earlier. I was a little concerned that management had not notified the residents to make sure that we were locking our doors and being aware of our surroundings. While it is not their legal responsibility to inform us of things like that, it would have been nice to know that they were concerned for the safety of their residents. We never heard anything from them. The complex is also pretty dark, so its unnerving to walk back from your car at night. As we were moving out, they were installing some very bright flood lights but there were still dark corners. Office staff: Mediocre service. They did not remember our names or our faces. It took them a month to get our first work order done. I just seemed to get the impression that they were not really concerned with their current residents. A big complaint was the fact that we received our deposit check late after we moved out. By law, they are required to send it to you within thirty days or you can take legal action. We called when they were late and the manager said she would call us back when she talked to the corporate office. We never heard from them, so I called back a few days later. They had taken care of it (the check had been sent) but hadnt called us to update. The late check was the corporate offices fault. Miscellaneous: The air conditioning and heating units are very old, so our one bedroom 650 square foot apartment had a 90 dollar utility bill (and we dont even use the dishwasher or turn our air to extreme temperatures, and we used energy saving light bulbs). The kitchen was dark because there were no windows, but we knew that moving in. The rent was also pretty pricy for the quality of the complex. I was paying 100 dollars more per month than my two bedroom 875 square foot apartment in Bryan. As to bugs, they sprayed before we moved in and we would find about two roaches a week, but they were almost always dead. As we were moving out, I saw more that had found their way under our furniture. The FREE INTERNET was really a router in the office. They wanted us to buy a signal booster, which may or may not have worked. I NEVER got a usable signal from them on our laptop. We ended up getting Suddenlink internet cause college kids need reliable internet. Also, FYI anyone sitting out in the parking lot can spy on what you are doing when you are connected to the Lexingtons network. Not good for online shopping. Good things: The location is great. Its wedged between two bus routes and its only a 20 minute walk (10 minute bike ride) to campus. You can easily walk to HEB and Hastings/Target/Freebirds/Old Navy. Theres a pool on site and a park right across Anderson. In general, I have tried to be fair in this review. I would not recommend this place. I think there are better places and you should look around before you settle for this. I rented from winter '07 through winter '07. ...
