There are many places to rent in Kingsville, and after renting from Apple Creek for 14 months, I would recommend other apartments. For the price (I was paying $775/month for a 3BR/2BH), you can certainly find other similarly featured apartments, that run $100-200/month cheaper. In fact, given the price, and the number of vacant apartments in Kingsville (everybody has a “Lease Special” sign up), I’m astonished that Apple Creek does not attempt to update their apartments to stay competitive. They are charging premium rent (although not the highest in Kingsville), but providing renters with old appliances, old carpet, old flooring, poor paint jobs, average maintenance, average landscaping, and poor management (though the secretary is very sweet). There are two situations in which I’m particularly glad that I am no longer living in Apple Creek. #1) After 14 months (and more than $10,000 in rent) of never being late on rent, I was late. I wrote a check, and knowing I was late, included the late fee. The manager insisted that it must be a money order. Because I was extremely busy that week (thus being late), I told her that it would not be able to get her a money order that day. THERE WAS AN EVICTION NOTICE ON MY DOOR!!! Not how you treat a loyal renter; quite absurd. #2) If the eviction notice was not enough, they charged me $110 to “clean my apartment” after I spent 5 hours cleaning. I even spent my own money and time to prime the walls for them. They claimed that I did not adequately clean the floors and appliances. Trust me, when it comes to cleaning, I am obsessive. The problem is, all the flooring and appliances are original from when the building was built... they’ve been so poorly maintained through the years, that no amount of cleaning will make them look clean. When I tried to argue this point, the manager essentially called me a liar and refused to do anything about it. In addition to other “replacement fees”, I received $36 of my original $300 deposit back. I cannot imagine how much revenue they’ve generated from these policies. Long story short, please do not waste your money at Apple Creek. There are other comparable apartments to rent for cheaper, that have slightly more honest managers. I rented from summer '09 through fall 10. ...
