Stay away from anything even remotely related to this landlord, Casey Housing. This husband-and-wife team skirts their tenant's privacy by barely knocking on the door, then walking in, later claiming they were "knocking hard for several minutes." Every tenant freezes during the winter months, because the boiler can't seem to run long enough to get to 64 degrees in the house, never mind a more comfortable 68. If you respond to one of Mrs. Casey's weekly emails blaming everyone for every possible thing that goes wrong on the property, be ready to be hit with a ton of unrelated references to the lease. A full and honest response to any of your questions is never forthcoming, leading you to believe that this woman you're dealing with is NOT the same person that answered sweetly the first time you sat down with her as you first looked over the apartment. She's always got a sheet of paper attached to the refrigerator. Look closely. It ALWAYS has the names of students who are no longer allowed on the premises. There are new names EVERY year. And don't take the option of paying all of the rent up front. If something happens, and you get kicked out (PA law says you can kick someone out in 5 days), you cannot get your money back. She's been in the tenant courthouse so many times, she greets the staff there by their first names. Stay away, for your own sake. ...

This woman is a bit of a stalker. She takes photos of the students when they least expect it. The other commenters are right. Every little item is charged for, including non-existent carpet stains. She also loves to sue the kids and she knows the people in court and they know her by name. What does that tell you. "Thank you for inquiring. " I rented from spring 2016 through winter 2017. ...

The place that these landlords rent out vary from fair to good. At your first meeting. the landlady does a great salespitch about how she's very involved with the kids, how she's been doing this a long time, and it's apparent that she knows what she's talking about. Because she knows all the tricks. However, BEWARE! She can and will become the landlord from hell. A good part of this may stem from her past experiences with really bad student tenants, but she doesn't give the new tenants a fair chance to "prove" themselves. EVERYTHING becomes the tenant's fault, whether the wireless internet is out, to doors not closing easily to dishwashers and washing machines not working properly. As far as heat, whoa, forget about it. Included in the rent is a small portion that is allotted for heat. Yet, even when it's not a terribly cold winter season, keeping the temperature to 65 degrees (if you're lucky) will greatly push the heating allowance over the limit. Privacy? Forget about it. The woman is constantly passing by, taking photos, stopping in and nosying around. She claims to set up one student as a Residence Assistant, giving that one person a break on the rent. Unfortunately, when the RA does nothing, or is part of the problem, the landlord from hell doesn't want to hear it, she tells you to discuss it with the RA, that's what he's there for. Regular wear-and-tear on carpets and walls becomes a major cleaning expense, which EVERYONE has to pay for, even if one tenant is a total slob. Something missing like a small bowl that maybe one of the other tenants broke or threw out? You'll be paying for that come end-of-lease time. Full retail, even though the stupid bowl was obviously several years old already. Don't question the landlord and refer to the lease, because she'll respond with even more simplistic questions of her own, and never actually respond to your legitimate questions. ...

Overall the houses are very outdated and rundown. If something was damaged or broke It could never be the landlords fault. At the end of the year our landlord charged us $40 per person to replace the cheap aluminum foil drip pans under the hot plates in the stove and to clean the perfectly clean carpets. Her pictures on here website are outdated and the rooms look nothing like that. Stay away from Casey Housig unless you want to be scammed out of money. I rented from fall 10 through spring 11. ...
