1) The lower level apartments are humidity traps and have mold problems. I thought maybe it was just me, but I asked another tenant and she told me pages in her books were getting damp. They will open the doors in the summer during the day to air the buildings out because they smell. I had to transfer into an upper level apartment after a month because the mold was making me sick. I had to complain several times and they agreed to let me because they understood some people "have sensitive noses." They expected me to run the A/C non-stop to bring down the humidity, and I even tried it, but it didn't work. I got a dehumidifier from home depot and ran that until I finally transferred all my stuff; I moved twice in one month. 2) The refrigerator in my first apartment there leaked water and it was never fixed. 3) The doors all squeak miserably, and when I moved in the apartment manager claimed they would get fixed. They never got fixed. 4) When I moved into my new apartment, the A/C didn't work properly. I had to complain 3 times before they finally replaced it. 5) Also at some point my roof began leaking over my bed. I had to move it to the side and catch it in a bucket. It took their maintenance personnel 4 attempts to fix the roof. I found out that the complex had several such leaks. 6) So somehow the apartment developed bed bugs- this is a growing problem in Cincinnati and certain other areas. When I told the manager, she wanted me to wait a week for an exterminator. I demanded one that day, and she told me an incorrect price. It took them 4 attempts to eradicate the problem, and I slept in a tent on my bed during the process. Then I was billed an inflated price 4 times when I thought it would be one price for the elimination. It took me at least 3 trips to the office to get the billing corrected to 4x at the original price quote. 7) When I left, I was told on check-out that the apartment looked perfect, yet I was deducted $55 from my security deposit for carpet cleaning. I wasn't going to write these reviews b/c the overhead guy (mentioned below) was working with me, but that was the last straw. 8) The neighbors can be noisy - there was often loud music in the hallway. 9) Aside from the mold, there are often other strange unknown odors. 10) The apartment manager has a wacky personality - trust your instinctive red flag. She gets some kind of thrill out of making life difficult for others. This is fact. 11) Mont Michel is short on maintenance personal b/c they are cheap and will not hire more. 12) The dumpsters frequently overflow into the parking lot and stink because the trash is not picked up often enough. 13) Parking is often difficult to find b/c they do not enforce towing of cars that do not belong there. 14) There is unusual activity in the parking lot and around the buildings; there are often people who come through and rummage through the dumpsters. 15) There are prostitutes who work out in broad daylight just down the street on McMicken. The one positive thing I will say for that complex is that the guy who is in charge of it and several others gave a Thanksgiving dinner for those who could not go home to family. When something would finally get done, it was because of him, but his hands are tied or he is too stretched out between several complexes. One way or another, Mont Michel is a mess. I think it should be condemned for the humidity and mold. The apartment manager will screw you, but if you go over her head, her boss will help. Do not move in, and if you live there, run. I rented from fall '08 through fall '09. ...
