For our daughter - All residents of apartment suffering from respiratory illnesses. Asked Elkins to inspect the moldy basement of our newer rental house. They sent maintenance person who said there was no mold, and we were told it was "Lye." Requested qualified inspector, told it would be weeks to get one. They put a padlock on access to basement and told us it doesn't matter because we "don't belong down there." Followed up to find out when inspection would be done, we were met with rudeness and diversions. Presented video proof from day of move in showing undeniable mold infiltration in basement, they then finally dealt with issue next day - was massive leak in basement, likelihood of mold returning extremely high since they did not dry out basement. Avoid this rental company at all costs. I rented from fall 2017 through fall 2017. ...

Elkins is absolutely horrible. They are rude in emails, on the phone, and in person. It takes them forever to fix any maintenance request you put in. Our washer and drier are from the 70s, require quarters, and DO NOT WORK. We have requested that they fix our drier four times and they have not even acknowledged that there is a problem. They failed to inform us which utilities we had to pay and we did not know we had gas heat, so when temperatures dropped to the 30s we were SOL for about a week while we got someone out to fix it. They do not care about their tenants or keep their properties in good shape. Our porch was attached to the house by about five nails and almost collapsed on the man who was supposed to fix it. Our front porch is currently not up to code. When we moved in they refused to clean or paint our house because we had a little bit of furniture we bought from previous tenants staying in the house. The downstairs bedroom windows are not safe and we were told upon moving in that we should probably put a stick in the sliding windows because it was very easy for people to break into. For 5 young women living in a house, this was extremely disconcerting. I would NEVER rent from these people again. They do not know how to run a business and could learn a thing or two from the world-renowned business school they have sitting in their back yard. ...

HORRIBLE. NEVER EVER EVER rent from them. Everyone in the office is a complete idiot and they have NO professional experience. All they want to do is suck every dollar out of the college students, and their ledger is from the 1970's. They dont keep track of anything, and unless you go in their office in person, you won't get anything accomplished. They tack outrageous charges to your bill and NEVER tell you about them until youre about to move out. DO NO LIVE HERE. THEY ARE MONEY SUCKING THEIVES ...

I rented from Elkins for two years... and it was complete hell. They nagged me about rent before it was due, tack ridiculous charges onto your monthly statement for NO reason, and refuse to make any repairs that you request. Absolutely DO NOT rent from them. They will fuck you out of your money. ...

I was at 109 South Park Ridge... When we moved in the kitchen sink was missing, it wasn't painted and the bathrooms were disgusting. On top of that the upstairs bathroom didn't work, there were holes in the wall and the oven/refrigerator had no selves or handles. When we came in to tell them the unit still hadn't been cleaned they told us we were lying and they had the recites to prove it, upon asking for the proof they changed their story to us denying entrance to the cleaning lady to our unit. Our dyer and fridge broke the window sills leaked and the screens were constantly falling out. The ceiling lights needed a new bulb every two months and birds nested in our vents. Bottom line is don't live with Elkins and DON"T live at 109 South Park Ridge. I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

I would not reccommend this landlord to anyone!!!! If you have a problem within your house, such as a broken toilet, don't count on having it repaired for 8 weeks. They'll pretty much screw you over. I rented from fall '06 through fall '07.
