I’ll start with the positives… Nice location for proximity to shopping and downtown, the office staff has always been friendly, and the rent feels reasonably priced. The issue? These apartments are INFESTED with GIANT roaches. The first day I moved in, I saw a roach in the master bathroom…it was only the beginning. I crashed on friend’s couches the first month of my lease because the roaches were so bad. I complained to the office about it and they gladly put me on the pest control list. The problem is, spraying insecticide in one apartment in an infested building is completely useless. Also, the spraying results in a steady stream of roaches coming out in the open to die. I work from home and have multiple virtual calls a day. At any time during these calls, a roach might run across the wall behind me. It’s also important to note that cleanliness has no effect on the presence of these roaches. I keep my apartment clean not because I believe it’ll reduce the roaches, but because it limits their pathways to move around the apartment (roaches typically like to move around baseboards or against things that provide cover… any clutter becomes a safe zone for them to travel). I don’t feel comfortable inviting people over to my apartment, I get anxiety putting on shoes, reaching into a dresser drawer, or simply walking into my apartment at night. I spent thousands of dollars buying new furniture when I moved in that I refuse to take to my next place out of fear I’ll bring the infestation with me when I go.
