My time spent at the Annex was very brief for various reasons. I was recently accepted to Indiana University-Kokomo when I discovered there was no housing initially. They had off-campus housing which was the Annex and then following that were just
normal apartments. I was intrigued with the Annex when I learned that financial assistance would be provided to help out with my stay. Everything seemed fine and I checked out the apartments online and took the virtual tour. I was pleased with the virtual tour I had seen online, however the real attention getter was the in-person tour. First of all, I wasn't even able to walk through the apartment until I signed the lease. It ensured to be fully furnished, but the apartment was anything but furnished. I was supposed to have a roommate and equally pay for the electric bill. Unfortunately, there was no roommate and all financial payments would've fallen on me. Suddenly, I had to leave abruptly the living conditions weren't fit for an animal. Black mold was found in the closet, cigarette burns in the bathroom, but above all the water was filled with the awful scent of sewage. I had searched online and discovered that when water smells that way its due to the presence of bacteria in your hot water heater. Each place where water was smelled that way from the sink to the bathroom. Overall, if better conditions could've been met then I'd still be there or at least better fitting apartments. Everyone deserves clean water and a nice clean apartment. I'm a neat freak so that apartment went against my living values. I want my own apartment very soon and without having to worry so much about the financial part.

When I was a freshman coming into the Annex of Kokomo, I was nervous because it meant living on my own. Being on my own, especially three years later, has been an eye-opening experience that makes me so happy to be ready for when the time comes after
college.
