I really have enjoyed living at the Freund Haus! Mark is a great landlord, always available to help fix things, answer questions or just to chat with! Our apartment is composed of four girls, so a lot of the time we aren't sure how to fix something that is the responsibility of the tenant. Despite this, Mark is always willing to give us advice or help us any way that he can! He owns other properties, but his main office is in this one, so he is nearly always available. As for the building, it's very cute! We've gotten many compliments when hosting parties. The only downside is that the walls don't seem to be insulated all that well, it's very easy to hear what's happening in other rooms, or even from out on the street (this also seems to affect the energy bill). Overall, however, the pricing is very similar to apartments around us that don't have the same personalization that The Freund Haus has. Plus, all the large apartment complexes nearby have hundreds of units, which means that the landlords often won't have time for you, unlike Mark who is always available. I rented from fall 2017 through summer 2018. ...

I loved living here! Mark was a great landlord and I had a fantastic year in his building. He was quick to fix things and always treated his tenants with respect and dignity. I would live here a second year if it weren't graduating and moving! I rented from spring 2018 through spring 2018. ...

I did not live at this property but at another under same ownership. Mark has been one of the better landlords I've had in my time leasing. When I applied, I was coming from a bad situation that left me with a poor rental history and in a tough spot financially. He was willing to work with me despite all this for which I am very grateful. Mark had renovations planned on the second bedroom and since he wasn't sure it would be done before I moved in he offered to charge me a lower rent that would only go up if I got a roommate or renewed. The construction took a lot longer than planned which was frustrating but not at all his fault - the contractors were slack-offs and one kept making mistakes that had to be corrected, further delaying the process. He was empathetic and shared my frustration, but eventually it was over ! It was really only a minor inconvenience especially since it meant that my second room would be brand new. When I decided to get a roommate and when that turned out to be a giant mistake he was supportive and helped me deal with the situation, even agreeing to allow us out of our lease early without a lease break fee which was a huge blessing because I couldn't bear to live in such unsanitary conditions and was paying for two apartments. All in all, I would absolutely rent from Mark again, but skip the roommate. I rented from fall 2017 through spring 2018. ...

I'm really surprised at the negative comments on this site! It's the opposite of my experience here. I lived at Freund my senior year and had a great year here. One of our fridges went out Mark got us a new one in just a couple days. That's all I've got. I rented from winter 2016 through winter 2017. ...

So strange that even the big apartment rental companies like CPM seemed to care about my roommates and I more than Mark Freund ever did. Total con-man. I rented from fall 2016 through summer 2017.

I didn't live at this location but I rented from mark. He is really just awful and a terrible landlord. He's rude, greedy, and immature all while trying to be all buddy-buddy. It's honestly really weird. I wouldn't be surprised if the positive reviews really were mark... I rented from summer 2016 through summer 2017. ...

While the parking lot is kind of close quarters and sometimes it feels like we are paying a LOT to live here, I have no doubt in my mind that this place is great. This year I've had to deal with some theft and personal roommate issues but Mark has done whatever he can to make sure that we are safe and that the proper action is taken. He has been extremely courteous and empathetic to whatever situation we throw at him. Yes, I was too skeptical about the amount of cameras in the building but because of those cameras we were able to identify trespassers and hand that information over to the police. Mark is a human just like the rest of us & he also owns other properties so we must be understanding if something is not taken care of right away. From what i've seen, he has definitely looked out for myself and my roommates in the best way and I would recommend this place to anyone. Not only do I feel safe, my unit is massive and up to date + this is a great location! 10/10 would recommend to anyone. Mark, if you're reading this, thank you for all you do! A good location doesn't equal a good place to live. As a girl, didn't always feel super safe with random men coming and going frequently for repairs and with a landlord who constantly seemed to be watching us on the cameras, whether we were working out or just walking through the halls. Also, just poor management overall in terms of giving tenants no notice for when he'll stop by, and in scheduling completely random repairs at unexpected moments. You really want to feel safe and happy where you live, and unfortunately the Freund Haus didn't give us that. I rented from fall 2015 through spring 2016. ...

I rented from Mark Fall 2015 through Summer 2016 at another location (not the Freund Haus). He is the WORST possible landlord I have ever encountered. If you want to be degraded, talked down to and just plainly disrespected, then he is your guy. He will try to charge you for things to be fixed or re-done that are not your fault. It doesn't matter if you have proof that something was broken when you moved in, he WILL blame you. He is the only landlord who NEEDS rent by the first (although legally you should have five days). He is rude, and hot -tempered. He will not give adequate notice for showings. If you ask for 24 hour notice, that will not be granted - he will make excuses. He will berate you via email or text, no questions asked. If you try to bring in a third party for help or assistance - he will FREAK OUT on you. He screws college students over and over and somehow continues to keep is rental license. We had BLACK MOLD - he proceeded to tell us to CLEAN IT OURSELVES. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS MAN. He is NOT a good guy. He will NOT help you. He doesn't have you or your apartment in his best interest. All he cares about is the money. I rented from fall 2015 through summer 2016. ...

10/10 wouldn't recommend signing here. Throughout the year, we had issues such as our television being broken and had to contact Mark Freund/talk to him in person multiple times for four months until he finally got around to taking a look at it. On top of that, he decided that he would have people do construction during midterms and gave us maybe a day of notice/sometimes no notice before random men started to come in and work on the windowsills. These never even ended up getting fixed/changed in any way. He often threatens with lawsuits/heavy fines to scare college students into doing what he wants and when he actually does his job, acts like he's doing a giant favor to the tenants. Already moved into a new complex and the difference between landlords is day and night. I wouldn't be posting this unless it were really important; not a good landlord experience. I was just made aware of this website by one of my tenants who told me that she'd written a nice review of me and The Freund Haus. She told me that there were some ugly things written about me that she couldn't believe. There's no way I can battle trolls. All I can say is, talk to my tenants! Ask them! The only thing I can do is invite you to come and tour. I'll leave the room and go to my office. You can take all the time you want to ask my tenants anything that you wantβ€”I'm not afraid in the least of what they'll tell you. This year, I've got 2 siblings of former tenants. Over the 6 years here, I've had a total of 16 siblings (brothers and sisters) including 2 coming as sublets this summer and one coming for 16-17 behind her sister who was here 13-14! Today is 3/8/16. I had a great experience my senior year! It's about the same price as any of the newer apartments but there are only 8 apartments and so you get to know just about everyone in the building. I lived in a different apartment every year while I was a student and this was by far the worst managed. The building wasn't bad and location was good but Mark was awful. He completely favors girls so if you are a girl and don't mind getting watched by cameras at all time feel free to love here. After we moved out we were given our security deposit over a month late and were charged for several things that were not broken when we moved out. Considered filing a lawsuit but his fine line print in his contract screws you. Also a girl was RAPED in the building FYI I rented from fall 2014 through summer 2015. ...

I have lived here from fall 2014 and will be moving elsewhere in 2016 because of graduation. I honestly wish I didn't have to leave! My roommates and I LOVE IT HERE. The landlord makes everyone feel like they are part of a family and is very very flexible. It is nice to have that kind of support when in your first space after moving out on your own! Also my apartment is GIGANTIC, more like a town house than an apartment. I know for a fact that these units get passed down from friend group to friend group because they are such a hot commodity once everyone comes over! I rented from fall 2014 through summer 2016. ...

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE YOU CAN LIVE. The landlord charges the same rates as the new luxury buildings and the building was falling apart. It was built in the past few years but windows and appliances and pluming are consistently falling apart. The structure is so bad you could always hear the girls moving and throwing parties in the apartment above. When we requested maintenance we were told "any damages are from resident neglect" and to reference the fees in our lease. Requests about the permanent damage, like the smell of mold in the washer that ruined our clothing, the AWFUL water pressure preventing more than one person from turning on a faucet/shower at once, or the faulty windows that wouldn't close properly to 24/7 let in a draft were ignored, and what was repaired either still sucked or fell apart again a few weeks later. Furthermore, tenants from the owners other properties are told to come ring the doorbells of our units to get into the building and drop off their rent! Not only does this completely undermine the point of having a security system, but was an incredible inconvenience on a Saturday morning studying for exams and being interrupted every 20 minutes to answer more than half a dozen calls of people who weren't our guests?? Finally, the landlord was CONSTANTLY touring our unit for the next year. We weren't moved in but a month before we had our first showing often times early in the morning when we would be getting ready for class or still sleeping, 2 times on a Saturday, once even 4 showings over a period of 5 days and NEVER 24 hours notice. It was a huge burden to be struggling with finals and getting text messages about a showing in the next 15 hours and that our unit needs to be cleaned and ready. 10/10 do not recommend living here. I rented from fall 2014 through summer 2015. ...
