My main beef is with the management company (Livesay Management). My monthly installments with them began on June 1st, 2009 with my last payment to be sent on May 1st 2010. According to the lease I was required to vacate the apartment by midnight on May 23rd, 2010. However, for reasons unknown to me I was required to pay for the full month of May, a total of $525.00. When I called to inquire as to why this was the case the reason I received was both insufficient and absurd. I was told that, “You pay the same for months with fewer days, so it balances out.” Again, this is a fallacious argument for reasons that should be obvious. $525 may very well be some form of average for a twelve month lease. However, there are obviously shorter months during the year for which I am required to pay the same amount. Furthermore, months vary at most by three, not eight days! Given their math, they’re charging me $136 (the total for the remainder of the month that I will be forced to pay) while not allowing me to live there. Agreed, I did sign the lease, but only because I assumed that they would engage in ethical business practices and that my last month would be prorated. Two mistakes I will never make again: 1) Renting from them, and 2) Underestimating the willingness of a business to put profit before fair and ethical customer service.
