Living at Summit is a unique experience. These apartments are under new management for the last few years; yet before that, they often had trouble that required police intervention. The new property management makes a vigilant effort to improve the safety, quality, and amenities of this complex, yet there is still improvement needed that will take time. In the last four months, there have been four reports of gunshots that the police responded to. Two of which lead to serious injury, one death, and one without a victim or gunman found. Another event during this time period, reported in the news, involved an individual holding their significant other at knifepoint, where the Fort Wayne SWAT had to intervene. This makes the community question the overall safety. Aside from that, the noise does travel better than other places I personally have lived. The facility does have a non-smoking indoor policy but multiple residents appear to smoke inside the units leading to the cigarette smell pouring into non-smokers units. This leads to a persistent odor strong enough to cause household fabrics to hold the odor. Aside from these, negative aspects. the residents are diverse, from college students to older adults and families. The majority of neighbors are friendly, and the maintenance makes routine rounds caring for the grounds, making sure they are clean. The office staff is prompt, friendly, and quick to assist with any issues. The issues described above are hard issues for management to control and will come about with slow persistent change, not just to the apartment complex but the community as a whole. Another note on safety, they also employ a contract security agency to patrol the grounds, which does, I believe improve safety. ...
