It's a shame what the Campus Living Villages company has done to this building since taking over. This used to be one of the hottest dorms on campus and is now probably one of the worst. Originally it was all northshore and is now pretty much China town since no one else wants to live there. Everything is cheap. The corporate offices are looking to squeeze as much profit out of the building as they can and will do it at everyone's expense. They do not care about the residents of the staff. Everything in this building is always broken, the food is cheap and taste-less, you can hear your neighbors doing the dirty since the walls are so thin, and its way over priced. DO NOT LIVE HERE. You will regret it and be wasting a good amount of money for nothing. I rented from fall 10 through spring 11. ...

Worst dorm on campus. Very overpriced. If you're not from the North Shore then you won't fit in. The staff is absolutely AWFUL, they are incredibly rude and incompetent. The cleaning staff is just as bad, if someone is in the bathroom they won't come back for another week to clean. The staff is lazy and just looking to squeeze any money out of you they can. Food is disgusting and has no variety. I regret living here. I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

I.T. can seem really nice compared to other places, but after living here for a few months, I've learned all the bad things about the place. I eat the food there because my body needs food to survive. The place is dusty, the air is usually too hot or too cold, as they shut off the air conditioning during the winter (november to march). You'd think that in the winter the rooms would be cold, but the heaters are left on full blast all day and it's impossible to sleep at night. Some of the staff are helpful and polite, while the rest of them are simply looking to bust you, squeeze some extra dollars out of you ($5 if you lose your room key), or they are generally just impolite and unhelpful. Last night, a pipe burst on the 14th floor, sending water rushing down the walls to flood our room and soak the carpet in moldy horrible smelling water which ruined a lot of our room. When we asked what they were going to do for us, they told us that unless we had rentor's insurance I.T. wasn't liable for any of it, and we would have to find some place to stay for the night. I.T., while seeming nice, can really be a headache with it's silly rules and limitations, along with the RA's who have nothing better to do than raid rooms until they find one empty beer can. Don't Live Here. I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

HORRIBLE. staff sucks. the place is outdated. they lie in their advertisements. there is never any hot water. it is really dirty and dusty. its too hot to sleep in the winter. if youre not from the northern suburbs then youre screwed especially in roommate arguments...theyll kick you out instead of your north shore roomie. DONT LIVE HERE. all they want to do is squeeze every dime out of you. ...

Absolutley awful place to live. the staff is very rude and everyone just wants to screw you out of a few extra dollars. the rooms are very uncomfortable and the food is only good if you are extremely high. often i would just get the low quality fruit instead of a real meal. stay away from IT, you will be happier. ...

NOOOOOOO!!! Do not do it. This place is horrible and most of the staff hates most of the residents. They put laxatives in the food!!! They invade your privacy and never hesitate to just barge into your room for any reason and sometimes it's just another random weekly room search. Never any hot water!! This place has nice rooms but it is like living with no privacy or choice to do what you want in your room. One word "NO" ...

The staff is great and the location is unbeatable. It is on the expensive end but you get what you pay for. There is a cafeteria downstairs and there are lots of options, the menu changes daily. There are fresh donuts and bagels delivered on all weekends. Been living here for 3 years and have never had any problems. If something is broken, maintenance takes care of everything quickly. Illini Tower is a great location, the food is decent, and the staff is extremely friendly. However, they need to do a lot of repairs on the rooms and in the basement. We have holes in our walls and a leaky faucet that have yet to be repaired. Also, if you are going to live here, I would highly suggest to ROOM WITH SOMEONE YOU KNOW!!!!!!!!! My roommate almost never showered after being outside all day, had strange guests over, and woke me up every single night crying about something. It took an entire semester (about four months) to get anyone at IT to do something, and when they finally moved her, she was still on the same floor! Also, the laundry is extremely expensive... I think it's almost three dollars to do just one load! And I know a lot of people say that at IT everyone shuts their doors and never leaves their rooms, but my floor is VERY social! We have fun parties and get-togethers all the time! I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

I thought that living here was a good experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I was lucky to have a very social floor and found that just leaving your door open while you studied or watched tv was a great way to meet people here. The location couldn't be better or closer to the quad. Whenever something broke here it was fixed up in a hurry and always done well (except our refridgerator still leaks a bit but so does everyones)The food can sometimes be boring but thats how it is at all places and the variety allows you to be creative. Overall it was a great place to live and I would reccommend it to anyone I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

*It's nice having a bathroom and kitchen in the room. The kitchen is kind of small, but the regular dorms on campus don't even have a kitchen, so you can't really complain too much about that. *They hold a few FREE special events each semester where you can win prizes. Every Tuesday in February, you could get a free massage in the study lounge. *The food in the Piazza Fresca is decent. Eating there kind of gets old after a while, but the food is better than many of the other dorms. *Maintenance is very quick to respond to the request forms, usually on the same day as turning it in. Do not buy the meal plan if you are a vegetarian. You won't be able to eat a single thing in the cafeteria unless you want to eat the same thing every single day: old salad bar lettuce, grilled cheese, pizza, and their occasional idea of a vegetarian entree of pasta smothered in sauce or something stuffed with cheese. If you're a vegan, buy your own food. The staff are not that friendly except for the cleaning staff. The management can be better and were not helpful. They don't do much when things are stolen from you, but they will search through your room for alcohol. Which doesn't make sense. The apartments are nice and spacious and always clean with nice furnishings. You'll live really close to the bars and to the quad and other frat houses. I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

I liked the overall atmosphere of IT...however, they do need to do a lot of work fixing things up! They should fix up the work out room and other downstairs areas to make them more usable! Most of the staff are very nice and friendly. The food does it redundant at times. IT can be as social as you make it...overall good experience. However, some residents seem to think they won the building, and are rude. I rented from fall '07 through spring '08. ...

This building is owned by a company who holds onto every penny possible. Here are some benefits and downfalls of the property. Benefits: Close to campus Nice Variety of food Decent size apartments Cleaning service provided every week Workout center Package will be signed for even if your not there Downfalls: Walls are as thin as PAPER Price is simply obnoxious Always had more than enough meal credits Cannot live without the meal plan (that's their cash cow) All food is fried Salad bar has food that is sometimes a few days old The variety they have is the same every day, rarely is anything new Website doesn't provide any information Laundry is $1.65 for a single wash (not including drying) Prices are raised to ridiculous prices Cafeteria staff is rude at times The MOST secluded place ever, if you never want to meet a single person, go here No one ever leaves their room or talks to people on their floor Resident Advisor's are never able to get residents to do anything Overall atmosphere is uninviting and way to much like a hotel (in a sense that you don't know about anything going on around you, not the service No control over the kind of internet or cable you receive Stay away from this. Definitely NOT the best freshman experience (more like the worst)! I rented from fall '06 through spring '07. ...

I highly recommend living at Illini Tower. I had a great experience living there. You get the flexibility of having a meal plan so you don't have to cook (and the food is much better than residence halls) but you also have a full kitchen with the option to make meals. The weekly housekeeping was great. There are opportunities to get involved on the floor and meet other residents. The keycard door locks made me feel safe and there is someone at the front desk 24 hours a day. It is very clean and up to date. I would definitely live there again!
