Out of all my apartment experiences in Chicago, this was by far the worst. The landlord was dangerously neglectful to myself and the rest of the tenants, and was very rarely available. A hole opened up under the carpet in one of the bedrooms, and it took three months before any action was taken. The construction of the basement unit is so poor, and the mud room does little to help prevent flooding of the front room during rainy, or snowy seasons. When a pipe burst, and water came flowing through lighting fixtures (I still don't know how this happened) no action was taken, no professionals came to look at any damage, and amazingly, lights would turn on even when the switch was in the off position - crazy yet was how lightbulbs would turn on while we would screw them in and out. So my confidence in the electrical wiring is very low. The absolutely worst, however, was when a series of break-ins occurred. At this point, The landlord had exclusively rented out all the apartments to young ladies. The break-ins were in the top two units, the physical safety of the women in those apartments was at risk. The landlord refused to have the locks changed in the apartments. When speaking with detectives and police working the case, I was told to move out - not because of the break-ins, but because the landlord refused to speak to the police at all, and they thought that was odd and not at all right. I cannot recommend this apartment, nor the "property company" that owns it. ...
