They just changed management a couple days ago and recently informed us of this. This bait and switch tactic of luring us into renewing our lease is honestly disgusting and an awful business practice. Incredibly disappointed- they just announced they wouldn't take online payments and are refusing to waive late fees even though they acknowledged that many residents would be out of state/ out of the country due to the holidays. Very disgusting and sleazy business practice. Regret renewing. They also have a cockroach and fruit fly infestation, so don't even sign on with them. Edit: They changed the payment options to squeeze more money out of you- they now added a $17 "convenience fee" to pay online. The previous management allowed a fee free payment. Yet another scummy practice by the new management. Disappointed. 3/28 Update: You extended the deadline of the first payment only right before it was due- after people frantically found a way to make the payment. The wifi has been out for days- I'd highly recommend getting your own wifi or even better, going with another apartment. People have exams, quizzes, hw and depend on their advertised "wifi amenity ", but it doesn't even work half the time and now there has been an outage for literal days. Nowhere else in Athens is affected except for Riverclub. I cannot stress enough that this subpar apartment is NOT WHERE YOU WANT TO STAY. There is dog poop strewn in front of my building to the point where I avoid stepping in the grass. 3/30 Update: They terminated my leasing agreement for the following year for leaving a bad review, which is apparently a violation of their lease. They said I could " not injure the reputation of the Property or its residents". I'm not sure if that clause is even legal. The Consumer Review Fairness Act protects my right to leave a fair and honest review, and Riverclub has now completely stopped replying to my emails asking for clarification. Again, highly disappointed. I paid 4 months in advance (21-22 and 22-23), and they are refusing to pay it back even though I will not be staying for those 4 months and are saying that they will keep it until all necessary charges are deducted. Again, I paid over 1k for the 22-23 year so that doesn't even have any charges to deduct yet they are refusing me my refund. Just overall very confused. Edit: They took down my google review. Seems like they comb through negative reviews because one other reviewer also mentioned that their review was taken down. ...

I had little problems in the beginning but my last year here has been horrific. With three years at river club I have experienced a flea infestation, condescending and unprofessional management and being scared and unsafe due to the threat of a gunman. The management at this facility is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. Very rude and very unhelpful. We have had a broken washer for a solid week and a half now and have called 5 times to see what was going on and we are told the same thing each time with no change in the status of our broken washer ...

As a resident at River Club Apartments for the past 2 years. I am here to tell you that with any assistance or help you would be better off to call Athens Police Department. I say this because during my first year, my car was hit in their parking lot. If you go and talk to the River Club staff they will offer no help and just tell you to call the police department. Also, during the hotter months of the year, the A/C may not always work, I have went a couple weekends at River Club with 0 A/C and the outside temp being in the 90s. Sleeping without A/C is not fun and should not be required when residents are paying near $500 a month. After my move out of my first year I was also charged for a small bleach stain in my carpet. Nearly a $100 for a bleach stain but luckily I had taken a picture of the stain when I moved in so they could not charge me for it. Also, when a work order is placed it can take them a lot longer than expected to come, mainly a problem for A/C problems because this leaves residents without cool air. In my apartment building this past year, there was a constant problem with other residents throwing all their trash outside. Nothing better than waking up to a nice toasty scattered bag of garbage outside your door. When this happens they will not seek out and charge the individual doing it but rather threaten the rest of the residents living in the building with a trash fee. During my second year, I had asked for a new mattress as well. This new mattress took 6+ months to come in and when they brought my new mattress in, the box spring was still broken. The β€œnew” mattress had been previously used upon inspection River Club does not do their job and will not help when you ask. I do not recommend living here unless you are looking for a lower lifestyle type of living. ...

This apartment was not worth the amount of money I had to pay monthly. Rent would probably be less expensive if they stopped trying to run the useless gate that was broken half of the time. Management was absolutely useless most of the time and made their 15 year old girls in the office handle 90% of situations. My 2 roommates and I were placed next to the woods in a basement floor swamp, where I then spent $430 a month to get malaria. Pest included cockroaches, frogs, centipedes, a metric butt load of millipedes, and swarms of mosquitoes. Management constantly tried to charge me for things that I put on my move in sheet and had to go to the office to argue. Locks were changed one time, and I come home to my door wide open and nobody home, so my stuff could have been stolen. The pool was green for the second half of the summer. They do have a tennis and basketball court which is nice, but I am sure if I had spent time there I would have found a sinkhole, or quicksand, or I would have been charged extra for looking at it. Bad lighting in the apartments. Then when I moved out, even though my apartment was pretty clean, I got a cleaning fee. I now pay almost half the rent and get almost double the value at another apartment in Athens. Avoid this place unless contracting Zika or pissing $5000 down the drain is on your bucket list. I rented from fall 2016 through fall 2018. ...

The Townhomes are not well maintained and the management is horrid. My bathtub finish was nonexistent due to age and mildew grew every 2 to 3 days. The front gate is constantly broken. Management also will enter the unit without permission and was caught taking photos of people and their dogs and reusing to delete them upon confrontation (to prove they weren't a service dog -dog was in fact in training at the time. Either way, ILLEGAL). The place was nasty when I moved in and as problems arose (mainly due to age), maintenance would often state that the applicable worked fine (it didn't) and do nothing. It was only after 4 plus maintenance requests that the AC/leaking water heater/dryer/ice maker was actually addressed. Although this was frustrating, I tolerated it until the end of the lease due to the low cost of rent. After I moved out, I was shocked to find a large number of cleaning charges that were extremely high, unwarranted (It was cleaner and in better condition than move in) and without proper documentation (pictures were taken but the quality was so bad that you could not see any details or β€˜damages') and repairs were done without my signature and viewing of proposed charges (see renter laws in Athens Clarke county). I was also not notified of these charges by phone, email or mail. When I called to discuss the charges, the employee informed me that β€˜there was nothing I could do because the repairs were already done'. I am extremely dissatisfied with my time with River Club. Spend a bit more to live somewhere with half decent management. Additionally, many car break-ins did occur (to units close to the broken gate) and River club did not inform any other residents. I rented from fall 2017 through summer 2018. ...

I'm not telling., I'm not asking, I'm pleading, DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THIS PLACE. River club is a terrible place to rent. The management gives no fucks, the staff gives no fucks. It looks nice on the outside, but its pretty much a maggot filled corpse. The appliances and AC units are all taken out of old buildings and put in here. They constantly break down and repair with incorrectly sized parts and duct tape letting the excess material "burn off". They are owned by scion group, and scion group is owned by another larger conglomerate that also owns the sham of an ISP they provide. It is known as pavlov media, the tier 2 and 3 support doesn't understand the importance of alerting users to down time, device backups and network route alternatives for when the central router goes down. Expect atleast 1-2 days of downtime a week on average (for internet). They constantly spam you, ask you to release and pressure you into feeling other places are fillling up. Go look on the east and north east side of campus. Rent from a local owner that can be held accountable easily. They actually care about you. I will be renting from Ambrose Properties, but Rent Athens can have good renters too. Move out, turned in my keys and my friends keys, got a $75 for turning keys in late on day of move out. Not my keys. This place is awful. The management is awful. Good reviews of this place are left by the employees and those they have paid off after leaving a poor review. I'm not telling., I'm not asking, I'm pleading, DO NOT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO THIS PLACE. I rented from fall 2015 through summer 2016. ...

I live in the apartments. I have had bed bugs off and on since I moved in in August. We contacted the previous tenants of our unit and discovered they also had bed bugs. The management drags their feet about handling pest control issues. So far, our unit has had fleas, roaches, and bed bugs. We also had a dead bat in our vents. It's now February and I still have bed bugs. They will not answer emails or phones in a timely manner about pest control or other major issues. I am counting down the days until I can move out. I rented from fall 2015 through spring 2016. ...

Despite the higher than usual cost of rent and the short duration of my stay (3.5 months), the office tried to screw me at least on 3 different occasions, not including the final act of utter incompetence when they decided to charge me 131.25 for an apparent hole in the couch (inside the couch! Not noticeable unless searching for said hole) that has reportedly been there for over three years. Not only did they charge me the ridiculous amount for a couch not even worth that anymore, but they took a month and a half to send the bill to me. The girls in the front know nothing about how their apartment complex works; be double and triple sure to have legal documents to back up all promises, questions, and answers. They can be outright rude; be prepared to be pushy to get anything accomplished. And if you want to the manager, good luck. He had a tendency to skip most of the workday. And another positive note? Two of the office workers in the apartment across and below me. The apartment complex has a no pet policy--guess who had dogs as pets and would allow the animals to crap in the grass around the apartment building? Complaints about these tenants were completely ignored and they were allowed to keep their pets. Additionally, our apartment had a silverfish infestation. Even though it was reported to the apartment complex, no work was completed on fixing the problem. I had great experiences renting from The Club Apartments for two semesters in a row. I'm definitely going back to them soon! I rented from summer '09 through summer '09. ...

The staff is rude and doesn't care about you as a patron or person. They are all college students. Maintenence could be quicker. I can hear everything in my bedroom from outside. Noise levels are horrible. Don't lock yourself out b/c then it costs 25 bucks to get them to come back after hours. (Mind you the person who unlocks, lives in the complex) The gates were broken/open for half of the fall semester and all of spring semester. My tile has never been glued down in the bathroom, so they are moveable. The model apartment is much nicer than the real apartment, i.e. tin closet doors instead of wood doors, nicer carpet and furniture than in reality. The rent is too high for the quality. I am moving to another complex with 1 less roommate and less money! Plus, rent has gone up since I signed my lease.. it's either went up 15 or 20 dollars. I can't remember. I rented from fall '06 through summer '07. ...
