Unfortunately Melrose has many.....My significant other lived here for a year before I came along and was already unsatisfied with it. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, he had to stay another year which is where I came in! I always loved the apartment prior to actually living in it...because when I moved in, that's when I met the ants and lizards. I raised the window blind in the master bedroom and there were dozens of little brown ants scattering from the window sill. We put out ant baits and it took about a month before we didn't see them anymore. Now that summer is coming, we're finding them again throughout the apartment. Sometimes on my days off, I just don't feel like answering the phone or door. Well when the maintenance people and pest control come knocking, with no phone call or indication that they will be coming, they just let themselves in if you don't answer. (Don't worry...they announce themselves at the door before they proceed into your apartment any further) We have had 5 leaks in the same area of our apartment, and the last three took forever to get fixed. The wall was left open and leaking for over a month, and even now that it was fixed, they never came back to paint...and I had to put the air conditioning vent back in myself. We couldn't figure out how lizards were getting in until we looked at the screens...or should I say screen (there are supposed to be two but one is missing and the other one badly bent)...on the living room window. All the window screens are bent like someone tried to pry them off to get in. I had to fix them myself because now that they raised the rent $100 since last year, we don't have alot leftover to get new screens. The ceiling in our laundry area sags, the air conditioner is a dinosaur (but it still works well!), one of our bathrooms gets no proper air ventilation so mildew grows pretty fast, the parking sucks and the area where we live, the parking lot floods when it rains heavily. When it floods, if your neighbors get home before you do they take your parking space and you are left with a spot submerged underwater. Forget about parking further away because you still have to walk through the muddy grass to get to you door. When the water eventually recedes enough that you can get into your car with dry feet, someone will drive by and go through what's left of the massive pool of flood water without slowing down much, causing the water to rush up and soak your feet anyways. Also, when there is a large amount of water in the parking lot, the little kids often come and ride thru it on their bikes or play in it, which is dangerous because some of the people driving through here don't observe the speed limit or they are too busy talking on their cell phones to see and the kids don't pay attention either when riding at breakneck speeds through the lot. I love that we can have animals here! I don't have any (other than the lizards and unwelcomed ants) but most of my neighbors do. I know this because a few of the cats are allowed to roam free and lay in the middle of the road and the dogs are allowed to poop in the grass right in front of our building and around the mailboxes/trash area and their owners don't clean it up. I find it on my way to my car...usually stuck to the bottom of my shoe. Be forewarned that the landscaping crew likes to work very early in the morning. Nothing like being awakened by the sound of an industrial lawn mower riding by your window at 830am! and I don't recommend putting Christmas lights on your shrubbery. They cut mine to bits this Christmas and never even told me or offered to reimburse me. (That's ok..what goes around comes around!) As for noise...I don't know if my upstairs neighbors are more noisy or if their animals are. Every step they take sounds like a herd of buffalo, I can hear the dog claws on the floor and even when the cat plays with her little tinky bell balls....and when they argue...LOOK OUT! Screaming at someone from your car belongs on Jerry Springer...not our front lawn. On a good note however, the landscaping at the entrance really is nice like they say :) I rented from summer '05 through summer '07. ...
