I would like to share my experience with anyone who may be looking into North Park apartments. I had lived in North Park for two years when I decided that I would like to transfer to a larger apartment upon expiration of my current lease. I met in person with North Park manager, who showed me a model apartment and explained that, while it was still early to be certain of future availability, she would keep us updated as the moving date approached. For the next few months North Park manager and I exchanged various emails, in which I was promised a specific two-bedroom apartment and was given a transfer date. Management also explained transfer procedures. I followed these transfer instructions and submitted my forms with a good deal of time to spare. To my surprise, management informed me the apartment we had been promised had been rented to another party. When I asked management why we had not been informed, the response was (my name) I don t mean to be rude, but I kind of have a lot on my plate and I can t be expected to remember. I was informed that there were no other apartments available. I m sure we are all well aware of the hassle involved with apartment searching. When I found out that our apartment had been rented to another party, I was forced to go out and search last minute for an alternative home. Luckily, I found an excellent place nearby. This story doesn t end here. Not only were we not informed that we no longer could transfer in North Park Apartments, management decided they would charge us an EXTRA fee, as we did not submit in a timely fashion our 60 day move-out notice. They would charge us an extra $1200 for not turning this form in 60 days in advance. I explained that, as we were promised a larger apartment in North Park, we had no reason to submit a move-out form at the same time we were planning on transferring. I have spoken with not only North Park management, but also Capital Properties management, and I am very disappointed by not only their initial irresponsibility in renting an apartment that had already been guaranteed to us, but more so by their extremely poor customer service. Management has refused to drop charges and in fact, just decided to tack on extra fees as well. While this situation has been extremely inconvenient and frustrating, I am fully aware of the importance of word of mouth in the DC area and I hope that my story serves as a guide for those in the process of finding a new home. Mine is only one of many complaints regarding North Park management and customer service. I have always placed a high value on customer service. I have lived in many apartment buildings and I truly have never experienced such irresponsibility and blatant disregard for current residents. ...
