Overpriced! I lived at the Marks for just less that three years. The office staff, at every point during those three years, was horrible. They are exceptionally incompetent, at everything! More than once I had to contact Equity Residential's regional management to get simple repair requests completed (such as fix a leaking pipe under the bathroom sink, fix a rust corroded pipe in kitchen sink that was leaking into my and my neigbor's apartment). Flooding due to rain was another problem on the bottom floor of my building. Just to get to the stairwell when it rained I had to step in 3 inches of water (no way to avoid) from parking lot, as the drainage system was inadequate. More than once I slipped on ice during the winter in common areas, during daylight/business hours, because the maintenance staff never got around to shoveling, putting down gravel or salt on common walkways. Crime is also high. A number of break-ins have occurred in the Marks community. You'd hear about 4 or 5 in a two week period at times. At one point, a neighbor in my building was "cleaning" his gun when it "accidently" discharged, and the bullet went through the wall and hit another neighbor. The management did not disclose the incident, as required, by posting or another other means, to any of the residents in my building. Nor did they evict the idiot with the gun. Rodents were another problem. I had a beetle problem, coming from the apartment below mine (and they were entering her apartment from another apartment). It took two months for the office staff to get anything done about this. The pigeons are also horrible! While the community has terminex on call, they don't follow up. Plus, it's not terminex's job to close up holes in the roof. Which the apartment complex did not do. They receive a number of complaints about pigeons from tenants, as I was told by the maintenance supervisor in April 2009. But, they refuse to acknowledge the problem and take care of it. While pigeons are naturally occurring, the buildings are not maintained to prevent pigeons, i.e., holes into roofs left open as part of construction design. I rented from fall '06 through spring '09. ...
