Easily the least competent property management company that I've ever that the misfortune of crossing paths with. My partner and I had toured the floor plan we were interested in renting, submitted our applications, were accepted, and then paid our deposit and first month's rent. Some days go by, and we receive a call that the apartment is, in fact, actually uninhabitable due to foundational issues, and we cannot live at the place we had just paid for. No offer to hold onto the unit until the fixes have been made, or to set us up in another unit of the same floor plan for the same price of rent. Instead they offered us a unit that was a whopping $600 increase in rent for our troubles. No deal. We had signed a lease with an agreed-upon rent. THEY had also signed this lease. When questioning their decision to do this, we received some sob story about the current state of the housing market, as if they were the victims here. Part of every lease agreement is the understanding that the tenant is promised a habitable environment in which to live. Not only did we not get this, but we as of now have not been refunded a cent of our ~$2000 we had given them. They have since dropped off the map, and have made no efforts to reach out to us, let alone answer any of our multiple calls, emails, or texts. Either they are not answering these for ANY tenants at Sage, or they are selectively ignoring our communications. Neither bodes well for their customer service, to say the least, although I'm sure they'll leave us the standard hand-wringing Yelp response. I'm sure we dodged a bullet by not staying on with Sage in the long-term, but for now they have been making life unreasonably hard for us. If we don't see our money refunded soon, we will have to take action in small claims court. If this is our experience without having spent a day there, I can't imagine the frustration of those who are in for the long haul with them. Please spare yourself future headaches and avoid Sage, and Essex as a whole, if at all possible. ...

I moved into the apt complex and lived there for 1 year. When you leave, they do everything to stiff you of your deposit. They will charge you for apt cleaning, carpet and blind cleaning and paint charge. no matter what. Even if you had taken the time to clean up the place, they WILL charge you and you will NEVER get back your full deposit. I am looking into complaining with the Better Business Bureau and every other public and private agency who will listen. I STRONGLY recommend that you DON'T rent from them and go somewhere else. In addition to the rent charge, they will charge you for electricity, water and sewage. you are practically paying for an old runned down complex with lead and asbestos in the walls and ceilings that are just painted over and over to mask the problem. I rented from fall '07 through summer '08. ...
