I made the mistake of signing a lease with a bad roommate who stopped paying rent and refused to leave. Management legally could have evicted just her and allowed me to fill the apartment, but because they wouldn't I ended up in court with a judgment to
pay for her unpaid rent, as I couldn't handle the rent alone since I lost one of my jobs. They are still sending me bills for more than double the judgment amount, threatening to report it to the credit bureau. Don't expect an ounce of sympathy if you fall on hard times. They just want your money, as the overpriced rent will testify.
I rented from spring '08 through fall '08.
