My experience at Hathaway Apartments was just average. Cons were that it seemed like it was built on an ant hill but other than that everything was great. One of the great things about living on my own and off campus is I would have to be responsible and call maintenance when needed especially for the ant problem. ...

I love living here at the Hathaway Apartments. The staff is professional. It's quiet and clean. I don't have any plans to move for a long while. I hear folks talk about how small it is, so what? I am here by myself with a 7lb cat!...How much room could I possibly need? I am surrounded by trees, and great neighbors and my rent is reasonable. Love it here! ...

The worse experience ever with Hathaway. Tried to increase my rent almost 30% with a 6 day notice, which is illegal ( CA law 30 day notice for less than 10% increase and 60 day notice for more than 10%). Neighbors I've talked to have had similar experiences. Hathaway has become a dump with no respect for their tenants. Every morning, awoken ( as early as 6:30 am) to sounds of power tools, leaf blowers, electric saws and grinders from repairs that have been going on for months with no end sight. Hathaway is filthy and is all tore up from these repairs, which are the worst of quality. Its very embarrassing to have guest now. Parking is a nightmare, people park in your space all the time and Hathaway leaves it up to the tenant to have the vehicle towed. I've had to have 6 people's car so far and in returned have had my car vandalized and my girlfriend was threatened. You'll get use to the sound of car alarms at Hathaway. Property manger Jennifer Buckley is very unprofessional, never returns your call. Going into the office to speak with someone in person is a joke. Incompetent office staff knows nothing and gives out wrong information, which has cost me money. The pool is usually enjoyed by gang banger type of teenagers drinking alcohol at night and on weekends, which security can do nothing about. Hathaway now seems to cater to these type of undesirable people. My unit is infested with spiders, termites, moths and silverfish, additionally I have a WASP nest inside the water heater vent on my outdoor patio. I see rats in the parking structures all the time. Complaints to the staff get no results. I've had my water turned off for hours starting at 7 am with no warning, from the constant exterior repairs. Construction workers sit on my balcony singing in spanish during their breaks while peering into my balcony door windows...nice privacy, huh??? Gardeners come every other morning at 7 am with their leaf blowers, to awaken the tenants and blow dirt all over our cars with their leaf blowers, which last for about 2-3 hours. Keeping your car clean at Hathaway is next to impossible. I made a big mistake renting at Hathaway, I hope with this others can avoid making the same mistake. Hathaway is owned by Equity Residential Properties, Google "Equity Residential" to read about the class action lawsuits against them. Lastly, it's important to mention that Hathaway markets their apartments with "Rent with equity rewards", which is described as "for each monthly rent payment, Equity will return 15 to 20 percent back to you in the form of non-cash rent credits. These credits can be applied toward the purchase of a new home from one of our Participating Builders" I CHECKED WITH THEIR PARTICIPATING BUILDER, THESE CREDITS ARE WORTHLESS. CANT BE USED FOR ANYTHING - NOT GOOD FOR DOWN PAYMENT, PURCHASE COST, UPGRADES...NOTHING.....total scam Be sure to check out, http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook/index.shtml KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, ESPECIALLY IF YOUR A CURRENT HATHAWAY TENANT Good luck to you!! I rented from spring '07 through spring '08. ...
