If you value your safety and your property, then stay away from Alta Vista. I have lived here nearly 12 yrs. Ever since the new management took over, and allowed section 8 housing, the crime rate has skyrocketed. At one point in 2009, Alta Vista Apartments was # 7 on Albuquerque's Nuisance Abatement watch list. I have been a victim of the crime problem here at Alta Vista, twice within a span of 6 mos. Once in July 2009, (assaulted by a jerk after asking him to turn his loud car boom box down at 1:20 AM, member of management staff, was "hanging out" w/ him). And recently, in January 2010, (Rock thrown through my car windshield in apartment parking lot). On another occasion in December 2009, almost all the back-up keys to the apartments were stolen from the apartment's maintenance shop, prompting the management to replace all the deadbolts for all the tenants in the 200 or so dwellings in the complex. Incredibly, they failed to replace the locking door knobs for the accompanying storage rooms which matched the original deadbolt keys of the tenant dwellings. The management here are a bunch of hypocrites. They also lie to their tenants. When I confronted the manager about the incident in July, she assured me that the staff member that was with the offender "no longer works here." However, when I visit the office from time to time, I see her back in the office as if she was still employed. If this lady is not employed as the manager would indicate, then there is a major conflict of interest occurring, as this lady has access to potentially private/sensitive tenant information. When I talked to the manager about the windshield incident, she had the AUDACITY to counter with "well, a couple nights ago somebody witnessed you impersonating a security officer." I was totally flabbergasted and deeply insulted by her accusations, as if this was worse than the overall crime problem at Alta Vista! I explained to her: that the night after the windshield was smashed I decided to start going outside to my vehicle (at night) with my flashlight, dressed in my house sweats, tank top, flip-flop and jacket to check up on it. I had to rightfully lecture her that I was out to keep an eye on my car, and that I had every right to and will continue to do so. Again, she acted like she was more concerned about the fact that I was checking on my vehicle at night with my flashlight (and her stupid assumption that I was "impersonating a security officer"), than the fact that I was a crime victim. How dare you Alta Vista!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!! Pacificap Management recently hired a security company that has roving patrols by car, and a foot agent that roves the premises from Thurs. to Sun., which (in my opinion, and unfortunate experiences) is seriously inadequate with regards to the amount of on station time. Crime happens 24/7. The incident with my windshield happened on a Mon. night. For various reasons (economic, or just simple forgetfulness, etc.) tenants will let their vehicle registration expire, hence the sticker on their license plate is "out-of-date." Now, the management all of a sudden has the right to "boot" the vehicle, rendering it in-operative. In order to remove the boot, the tenant has to pay a $100.00 "fee." All the while they (management) utilize a Chevy pick-up truck, license plate # HHP-035 with expired tag dated Sep. 06. They say that this is a maintenance vehicle for the complex, and "never leaves the grounds," although on occasion I've seen it at McDonalds across the street. Can you see the hypocrisy?? It's so obvious. In the past, I have tried to be "forgiving" and attempted to "move on." But enough is enough! The present manager is doing a very poor job of "impersonating" a reputable/empathizing apartment manager. Please, DO NOT RENT HERE! All the reasons I mentioned above, leave me no choice but to eventually move. So please do your research before even thinking about this place. I rented from spring '00 through winter 10. ...
