If you're looking for a small, quiet place to live, and you're not too fussy about having a fancy new place, Tamarack is for you.
I lived in a two-bedroom /two-bath apartment. It's nicely arranged with a bathroom between each of the two bedrooms.
Each bedroom has a big walk-in closet and a big window. Note that it doesn't have air conditioning, which means that the two front bedrooms must keep their windows open at night ... meaning there's only a screen between you and whoever walks by during the night. Maybe not the safest thing, but I've never heard of any problems.
The common area is nice and big with plenty of space for big furniture; nice big windows in the living room allow for good natural lighting. The kitchen is a small U-shape, but it's plenty for a college apartment. The insulation isn't great, so sometimes the living room can be cold -- plan to bring plenty of couch throws.
Parking is great. The lot is never full -- that's not something to ignore in Boone.
As for social life, it's a quiet, bring-your-own-fun type of place. Neighbors are friendly.
What's wrong with the place? (There's something wrong with every place.) Management! Steve is a complete idiot; he doesn't keep records of who in the apartment pays each month. Seriously, who does (or doesn't?) do that. Also, he doesn't do much to keep the place clean -- I mean the parking lot and the walkways.
I rented from fall 2014 through fall 2014.
