In September of this year, I started my second lease with Fair Park. I moved from one unit to another. During my first lease, I lost about $200 due to the system used for paying rent online being "finicky" as described by the property manager (Brooke). I was a struggling college student so of course I did everything in my power to regain the funds. After climbing the business ladder all the way to the highest person I was able to speak to at the corporate offices of Lindsey here in Fayetteville, I was told that it is simply not their fault if a system they use doesn't work and that it is also out of their hands to refund the money or reprimand the employee who used "bad wording". This incident occurred in the first month of my lease in 2019. The rest of my lease was fine, not good but fine. However when I decided to stay in the complex for another year because I really had no choice financially speaking, I had no clue what horrible things were instore for me and my new roommate. I moved from one unit into another barely down the parkway from the original. I brought with me only furniture I had in the previous apartment while my roommate bought new furniture only. Not two weeks into our lease did I wake up with a severe allergic reaction to bed bug bites. I had to seek medical attention and both my roommate and I had to vacate for fumigation that would later prove to be a much more drawn out process than anticipated. Anybody with common sense can come to the conclusion that obviously the bed bugs came from the apartment and not us but Lindsey refused to take responsibility. We could not live in our new apartment for the better part of a month and we received absolutely no compensation. Lindsey treated us as an inconvenience as if they were the victims while I was covered head to toe in bites with a swollen eye. I had to take off work and missed out on much needed paychecks. Not to mention, when we first moved in; we submitted a maintenance request for many reasons and never received word back and ended up having to resubmit them one by one until our apartment felt whole. When we moved in, the oven was missing a dial, there were holes in doors, paint drops on the kitchen floor, dents in the refrigerator door, doors that would become stuck if you closed them, and other minor inconveniences. It is the end of November. We moved in on September 1st. We are still working on receiving maintenance for places in the apartment and recovering from the hundreds of dollars we lost when we had to vacate for fumigation and when I had to visit the doctor and pay for medication, and replace clothing items that were torn apart during heat treatments. Lindsey does not care about their tenants. They only care about money. They have monopolized Fayetteville and other university towns, so college students are forced to live in their apartments. It's tragic and unfortunate but it is reality for a large number o us struggling college students. ...
