I live in North Ramparts.
This is a great place to live, all in all. You can walk to campus - no need for a car! If you can find some roommates, the price can't be beat - 287.50 is what we pay each, and utilities are reasonable.
The place is
mostly full of graduate students and internationals, which means it's really quiet and peaceful because there's pretty much nothing but friendly asian people who study all the time.
There's plenty of parking but the garages are really narrow - but at least you get a garage! You'll get REALLY good at learning to park in narrow spaces. Management is nice and reasonable.
I feel VERY safe here.
Only one bad thing:
We got bed bugs at the North Ramparts location. I'm not sure whether that's really the apartment complex's fault or not as these buggers seem to be slowly taking over Texas, but they are a SEVERE pain in the ass. Management has paid for exterminators to come and get rid of them, which is really nice, unfortunately these tiny monsters are damn near invincible...
I rented from summer '07 through fall '08.
