After having a run in with the ever famous β€œLorie Allen” I lost sleep due to the way she treated me and my friends. Until I got on here and realized she treats EVERYONE this way. Imagine being the most hated landlord in all of Columbia. Yikes. I was visiting some friends at Vanderveen Villas (for the second time in my life) when not 2 minutes after I arrive she bangs on the door and demands everyone to come downstairs asking our names and what we are doing there? She accused someone of living there unauthorized when they have not a single personal item there besides their shoes. She then brings up the smell of weed in the air filter they changed all while staring DIRECTLY at this person she's accusing of living there. Which keep in mind this person is the only African American in the room. As I walk out finally after being interrupted several times and unable to voice any sort of response she proceeds to follow me and takes a photo of me and my license plate when I did absolutely NOTHING. Following that she bans the African American from ever returning when HE did absolutely NOTHING. I've worked in property management for 6 years and I've never in my life experienced anything like this. In conclusion, I wouldn't rent from Lorie Allen if it was the last property standing in Columbia as she's the most rude, nasty, racist bitch I've ever encountered in my entire life. I rented from fall 2018 through winter 2019. ...

If I could rate management as a 0 I would. Lorie is a straight bitch. She doesn't care about her tenants, as long as she gets her money she's happy. The price is nice but I would pay extra to not have to deal with her! She's a liar and she will scam you and nickel and dime you. Read the reviews. By far the worst rental company. Laurie is a judgmental hypocrite. I had an interview with her and she talked negatively about a current employee Unprofessional, and just very rude, my Roomate also voiced her opinion one time and Laurie got really defensive. And was rude, she made up accusations. Were honestly very afraid after reading some of these reviews that we are going to get a bunch of random charges that are unnecessary, even though when we moved in there was already things we could tell were wrong with the place. Everything seemed great the first few days then maintenance never showed for the work we noticed needed done when moving in. None of the windows or doors have been sealed which cost us $300+ in utilities every month. When concern was voiced we were told that we were being irrational and that since we did not own the home we had no say. Also the lease might as well be a blood binding contract. One of our room mates fell I'll and spent all of her time in the hospital or her parents and trying to get her off the lease was a nightmare. Please don't sign here. Management will make up reasons to charge money and treat you like crap. Please use your money to help another place out rather than pay them any money. I rented from fall 2016 through fall 2017. ...

I've been renting my townhouse for alimony two years now and have had no issues whatsoever with management. As long as you pay your deposit, pay your rent on time, and don't annoy your neighbors with excessive noise, you'll be fine. I've had a few issues such as the garbage disposal going out, but I emailed Misty about it and it got fixed within the next week. If you're nice to them, they'll be nice to you. I haven't met Lori personally, but I've spoke to her on the phone when I was in the process of getting my application approved and she didn't seem rude at all. She was concerned that I wasn't able to afford it, but she then realized that I would be having a roommate to split the bills with. They're really easy to work with if you give them patience and respect. I rented from fall 2013 through fall 2015. ...

Make sure you read the fine print and get a copy of all papers you sign immediately after you sign them, especially a Pet FEE Agreement (which they call a deposit, acting like you get it back if there is no damage, but nope, they keep it.) On our security deposit we were charged for carpet pet damage of $110. I asked what the $400 pet fee was for and they said for wear and tear caused by pets...and I said so doesn't that include carpet? And they said no. So I asked what other wear and tear would be caused by a pet that would cost $400 that isn't carpets and they had no response. Oh and landlords are supposed to send the deposit back within 31 days of the lease ending, and it took them longer... which isn't that big of a deal, but i emailed and got no response and called and they said it was already sent and then when i finally get it, it is postmarked after the 31 day period... so the fact that they lied is childish. we were also charged for things that were already wrong before us even moving in. the utility bill is outrageous because the house and doors are not sealed, which we asked for but they never did. In the winter our utility bill got up to $397...and it was still cold in the house... They have lost my roommate's rent payment multiple times and then email saying we owe the rent and a late fee but then oops later they found it... they are unorganized, rude, condescending, and talk to you like you are 5 when they are the ones that actually made the mistake. And as you can see, there are so many other reviews talking about how Lorie gets into peoples personal lives. She snoops and loves drama. We heard lots of things about other renters while we were signing our lease...that should have been a warning sign for us. So to conclude, I do not recommend renting in Vanderveen Villas or any property owned by GPA Property Management or by Lorie Allen or Roger Allen. I rented from summer 10 through summer 11. ...

GPA is by far the worst!!! lori is a complete bitch!! she is a lier and will nickel and dime you for everything!!we had bunch of roommate drama and she believed all the lies my roommate told her, and started sending us letters saying we were harassing her and want not how that wasn't allowed and she would call the police. she would pick and choose who paid what fees and what roommates didn't have to. she was completely disrespectful laughed at me on the phone while discussing fees. she completely ridicules. when trying to find subleasers we were told it would only be one fee of 300 since its all on one lease. but then lied about it later. ...

I had never dealt with Lori until it came to resigning the lease and they nagged me for the longest time about it that I finally caved-- not this time around! Our leases stated that we weren't allowed to have parties (and i'm all for parties, mind you) but every time a certain group would have parties, that line in the lease seemed to fade, and they were obnoxious. There was never any parking, ESPECIALLY during their parties, and any time someone would call the Columbia police about something illegal, they would send out emails complaining that "CPD doesn't need to be involved in their neighborhood any more than they already are." Some of the people that live in the complex I lived in are complete assholes as well. They'll park in your driveway and even if you complain about it, if they're one of Lori's favorites nothing is going to be said/done about anything they do (regardless of how illegal it is.) They fixed a tub in my house without properly ventilating the smell of it after fixing it. and if you aren't there when the maintenance man is there and need something specific fixed, don't expect it getting fixed at all. It seems like an awesome place to live at first until you get into it, it all turns to hell. Unless you have the most perfect neighbors/roommates and nothing happens to your house; I'd suggest just not renting from them. ...

GPA Properties in Columbia is the most disrespectful, unorganized management that I have ever had the displeasure of communicating with. Even if the rent is a hundred dollars cheaper than another place, I can confirm that it's not worth it once you have an issue and need to speak to snobs about it. Lori is the worst person you will ever have the displeasure of working with and everyone else that works there follows. They will speak to you as if you're too dumb to understand what is going on and once you make it aware that you know more than them about an issue then they will cut you off at every opportunity you try talking. STAY AWAY ...

She was my neighbor growing up as a child and I was STILL treated like the absolute scum of the earth. I have only been living at Auburn Hills for two weeks and I hope the next year flies by. Lorie will lie to you and cheat you like you have never seen before. She has even altered documents after we had signed them and without us knowing. I read all of these reviews prior to moving in and I'm now wishing I had realized the severity of them. This is not a company you want to get tied up with. Do NOT rent from GPA properties. The main lady Lori is a huge bitch. She I'd very rude to all of her tenants. She treats you like you are a 5 year old. She will get in your personal business and tell you how to handle your finances, or relationships. Anytime you have a problem she will blame the problem on you. She will lie to your face. 1 day she will say 1 thing to you and then turn around and call you a lier and say she never said it. I had a family member in the hospital and I had to help pay for a few things for that family member. Lori called me a lier and said I didn't have to pay for anything and that I never had a family member in the hospital. STAY AWAY! GPA is not worth your time or money. I have worked with a few rental companies in Columbia and although many of them will try and skim you for money here and there at the end of your lease I've never dealt with such an incompetent and rude rental agency in my life. Not only did they call me numerous times and ask who they had called because the lady calling had forgotten what she was doing but they would get frustrated on the phone and hang up or pass the phone on to someone else if you asked questions or contradicted anything they said. Lost my entire deposit due to not giving them a full 90 DAY NOTICE of moving out although no lease was renewed. Again not worth your time or money, they will fight with you, be rude, and lie straight to your face. Please move on to the next company. I rented from spring 10 through spring 11. ...
