In 2007 after graduating college, my girlfriend and I moved to the Amli apartments at Danada Square in Wheaton, Illinois. We were immediately unimpressed with the type of service we were to receive from the Amli staff. Throughout the 11 months that we have lived here, we have received numerous letters informing us that our dog mess has not been cleaned up outside. It seems as if Amli's response to a dog mess found by their staff is to send out a threatening letter to all of the residents in the nearby building that own dogs saying that they will be charged $50 for each mess.... not knowing who it belongs too! At another point in the lease, we made a request to clear a clog in the shower drain. I came home from work to find a letter saying that they had replaced the shower head which was working fine. The drain on the other hand was still clogged and remained so until I bought some drain-o, and the shower head that was replaced was older than the first one that was working fine. Amli also ignored for several months a burnt-out street lamp that created a safety issue for the tenants. Even after they sent out a letter explaining that several vehicles in the area had been broken into, they neglected the need to have adequate lighting in the parking lots. In the eighth month of the lease, we received a letter (placed out side our door) claiming that we still owed $100 towards our deposit. Apparently Amli had put that money towards our rent instead of the deposit and expected us to take care of the difference 8 months later. When they clearly made the mistake. The straw that broke the camel's back was when we were getting ready to move out. Roughly a month and a half prior to the end of our lease, I contacted Amli to find out what our pro-rated month of rent would be. Since we were leaving mid- month. They told me that because I did not give a written notice at least 60 days in advance, I would have to pay rent for 60 days from that date. This meant that not only would I have to pay for 2 weeks of rent in which I would not be living in the apartment but the rate would be about $300 more than what the original lease was at. They also do not believe in using the US Postal Service. They believe that putting notes outside your door is an effective way to conduct business... COME ON! REALLY? Who is too say that we received these so called letters and notices, not to mention it was unprofessional. I would never live at Amli apartments again and would strongly encourage others to find an apartment complex that respects its tenants and knows how to do business. I rented from spring '07 through spring '08. ...
