DO NOT sign with First Site. First we thought that our apartments would be great since they were brand new, but little did we know the builders didn't make the buildings according to proper standards until we saw our building on the local news. Second, the parking. There is a huge parking lot and always tons of parking available which is good, but you must have a First Site sticker on your car. We had a visitor stay for the night and their car ended up getting towed, and we had to pay $110 to get it back. They told us if visitors want to park in our lot, they have to pay $5 a night for a guest sticker. RIDICULOUS. Also when you sign they neglect to tell you all the extra money they force you to pay at the end of the year for move out. You have to leave your apartment spotless and MUST get your carpets cleaned on your own (other leasing companies like Young America take care of that for you) or they will charge you $80-130. In their very detailed cleaning checklist they send you, they make sure they mention they will be happy to charge you $47-80 an hour for any additional cleaning they might have to do after we leave the apartment. Finally, as a graduating senior, my graduation is on Friday and First Site made mandatory move out Friday! They were nice enough to give me a 10am Saturday move out. Can't wait to spend my graduation day cleaning and moving all my stuff out. Bottom line is, I paid too much money for "luxury apartments" that I can say were anything but. What a joke. Building was completely disgusting and probably unsafe. Air conditioner was broken when we moved in- sounded like a lawnmower in our living room and was NOT putting out cold air. Only two grounded outlets in the entire space, which I have a hard time believing is up to current housing codes. Got prorated for everything, hallway/building was always disgusting. Don't even think about using the laundry room- which is probably growing a hundred different kinds of mold and looks like something out of a bad horror movie. I will say that maintenance was always timely, friendly, and helpful, but that would be the only part of the staff that was- everyone else was rude and completely useless. And don't even get me started on moving out- out of $300 deposit, my roommate and I only got back $44. They charged us $85 for cleaning charges after my mother and I spent hours scouring the apartment. The inspectors even commented on how clean the apartment was when they came for check out and somehow we still got charged. (If you do choose to rent here, don't bother cleaning before you move out! It's wasted time!!) And the check that we got was made out to both of us, which made it really fun to try and cash once we were living on opposite ends of the state- just another example of a pattern of stupid behavior typical of this company. I know housing options are limited in Bloomington-Normal, but avoid First Site at all costs!!!! And trust me, it WILL cost you! They will take you for every cent you have!
