The company uses tenant deposits to pay for essential maintenance.

I rented from summer '05 through summer '07.
I paid monthly rent of $800 during fall/winter for a private room.
I paid monthly rent of $800 during spring/summer for a private room.

Pleasant rental experience with this company! The office staff members are nice and very professional. The maintenance is always taken care of "johnny on the spot"! There is a large (and free) fitness center at this apartment complex! The apartments are amazing!

The condos and apartments are nice, but the landlords are greedy. You WILL pay $300 for carpet cleaning out of your security deposit (even if the carpet is in perfect condition they will schedule the cleaning themselves if you don't arrange it). You WILL pay $400 for cleaning even if you spend hours cleaning it. Most tenants I know have had to pay for repainting ($1000-1500). This is all despite the fact that Iowa law says deposits should not be used for 'ordinary wear and tear'.

As an example they have sued multiple tenants (and most tenants are professional)- not the kind of landlord that you want.

And don't even try to keep pets- they ask for $2500 deposit for a cat and will sue and evict you for a dog!!!

I would NEVER again rent from Houser Rental (either here or in there other properties in the area).
