Upon inquiring about these apartments, like many other ratings I have read before, I was shown a pristine apartment. At move in I was handed the keys to an outdated and run-down apartment. All appliances were from the '80s, including a refrigerator without a working light bulb. The carpets had just been 'cleaned' professionally, but still smelt of cat piss from prior tenants. Several of the light switches did not turn on anything or had to be slightly giggled to turn on the lights. Several times I was promised the wiring problems would be taken care of, but it never occurred. Every winter and summer the heating and cooling, respectively, would not work. Every time I asked to have it fixed, I was met with a stern talking to reminding me that if it was the air filter, I would be responsible for the cost of repair (it never was). The problem was always attributed to shotty wiring. Over the five years of living here, the toilet had the seal changed no less than ten times. In fact, upon moving out, the toilet just began leaking again. My apartment was located near the stairwell, and every tiny noise could be heard including light walking and the opening and closing of the exit door. Most of my neighbors were kind, but there are always bad apples in the bunch, and I was used as the buffer for several uncomfortable arguments between two other tenants. These arguments would be been avoided if management would have stepped in when called upon. Parking was adequate, although lighting was hit or miss. Many times the building lights would be out for months. This made it very uncomfortable to walk to my car/take out trash at night. One night a handful of cars were broken into, including mine. Overall, management does not care for older tenants, and have been replacing everything with new when an older tenant moves out. Maintenance is terrible, and rarely was the problem fixed within the one or two trips. Getting in touch with management is also a pain, as they never check or respond to emails or phone calls. Almost ever problem reported to management is made to seem like it was your fault, and they make you believe that it is your responsibility to pay for repairs. I do not recommend Quail Valley to anyone that plans to live there over a year. I rented from fall '08 through spring 11. ...

Nice and quiet and not too far from either UNI or Hawkeye CC. I lived at QV for 2 years while at UNI and it was nice not having to worry about crazy parties and loud noise all the time! Apartment was nice and the closets were enormous!! Manager was very nice and took care of the few minor maintenance issues that I had. There were a lot of other great people that lived in my building too! I rented from fall '09 through summer 11. ...
