Poorly maintained apartments. Always filled with bed bugs prior to your move in date and customer service isn't upto the mark. Hallways smell of urinal and there are always roaches around. It is a very unhygienic place.

http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro/12.03.98/colonnade-9848.html ****PLEASE READ FULL RATING*** As you can see, this newspaper review was printed in 1998! It is absolutely TERRIBLE that the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS are still affecting residents and some have even worsened, 10 years later. From the start, the Colonnades management seem friendly. They immediately volunteer themselves to show you around, give you tours of the buildings, show you the facilities, and act like they actually make the effort to work with you. AFTER FINALIZING THE LEASE, IT STOPS. The pool is gorgeous, however both the SPA and POOL are often found littered with eggs, bottles, glass, rotten food, and other articles of garbage. The hot water in the SPA hardly ever is up to an acceptable temperature and the jets NEVER ever work. From the looks of it, the pool area is very enticing and attractive to say the least. The clean tiles and ikea-looking furniture in the hallways are the result of the friendly and hard-working cleaning staff that can be found CLEANING THE FLOORS DAILY. The hallways are impeccable, although MANAGEMENT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS and are in fact, quite the opposite. The maintenance men are friendly and when approached personally will generally address the problem given that it's not a major repair. However, if you contact the main office with a repair in mind, they seem to never, ever relay the message onto maintenance and therefore your problem lingers on. Security is a joke here, it consists of overly aged-men who also definitely have wilted spirits. The many times I have seen fights and other various confrontations in and around this area, I have prayed for the safety of these "guards" and that they do NOT attempt to break up the scuffle for their own SAFETY. Often times after entering the lobby, bringing groceries up, etc. I have been suspiciously eyed, sometimes even followed up to my room in their attempt of trying to scare me? Out of suspicion or more specifically, RACIAL-PROFILING they attempt to bad-mouth, harass, and follow me around. I have NEVER, NOT ONCE issued a complaint on the units surrounding me, because I can relate to the fact that living in an apartment is sometimes stressful given the expensive and uncomfortable situation.. an added and unnecessary complaint only makes the situation worse. I would much rather contact the people living in the unit themselves and settle it without the irritating management or unfriendly security. HOWEVER, I have had many noise complaints issued on my unit and THE MAJORITY of them had absolutely no basis or foundation at all. After receiving a formal complaint for noise, which was an acceptable complaint given the events that had taken place, we were issued another one a few days later. They had mailed several letters to the co-signer, and to the unit itself, as well as placing them on the door. The first complaint was agreed upon by myself and roommates that we were partly at fault, however the other noise complaints had included statements such as "Security came to your door and you refused to open it." We were at the time, sleeping and had no idea security was at the door and were not making noise at all. IF THIS CONTINUES, TAKING THE COLONNADES TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT ON HARASSMENT CHARGES IS IN OUR FUTURE. Security RUDELY knocks on our door frequently and for no reason at all; the majority of the time, we are casually enjoying ourselves in our living room, eating dinner and watching television. These frequent interruptions are being logged and will later constitute our filing of harassment charges. As for the parking goes, the parking garage DEFINITELY needs work. The entrance is littered with FILTHY furniture, much of which is probably infested with all sorts of bugs and God only knows what else. The gate is often broken and left open for downtown vandals to enter and break into your vehicle. Liquid is often found to be dripping on your car and may cause damage the the paint, etc. which when taken up by management will be simply disregarded as long as possible. THE WATER is often shut off from 8a.m. to as late as midnight.. OFTEN TIMES without warning. This has happened several times, and even though they have notified the tenants with letters SOME of the time, the times allocated e.g. "8a.m. - 3p.m." often leads to 8a.m. - 11p.m. without ANY WATER AT ALL. KEEP IN MIND, YOU CANNOT SHOWER, USE THE TOILET, COOK, OR DRINK ANY WATER AT ALL. There are no pool bathrooms, no fitness bathrooms, etc. How are you NOT supposed to use the toilet for 12+ hours IN YOUR OWN HOME? Walk over and ask politely to use the bathroom at Jack in the Box? What about the tenants with children? Babies? This is definitely an issue of public safety and a health concern and the CODE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTOR should be contacted immediately. Upon moving in, several items appeared to be in working order, however definitely were not. Both screen doors, two door hinges, several cabinet hinges, both shower sliding doors, smoke alarms, the dishwasher, the front door, two closet doors, and the AC/heating unit are BROKEN OR BREAKING and ultimately unacceptable. The AC/heating unit leaks water into the hallway from inside the small closet where it is located, the front door hinge has broken and scrapes the door and paint whenever it is opened. The key for the front door has been previously tampered with and as a result, does not fit properly; it often takes several minutes of fidgeting with the key and lock just to lock and close the front door. The cabinet and door hinges fall apart and have become loose within DAYS of moving into the unit. 2 of the 3 smoke detectors placed in the unit do not work and in fact, one had to be added by management because maintenance had not provided the unit with an adequate amount. The dishwasher leaks water if used and therefore cannot be and the refrigerator light has been out since our arrival. THE LAUNDRY room is also on the floor, however the machines are often broken and or littered with lint. I have several times, INSPECTED the machine for papers or lint, ran laundry, then found my laundry filled with torn papers and lint. These machines RUIN laundry and often times I wonder if they machines RE-USE the filthy water. The dryers also can only be run on perm-press because on the "normal" setting they reach unimaginable temperatures and will burn your clothing, especially if many logos are present. THE COCKROACH PROBLEM IS SOMETHING TO BE AWARE OF. THE DISHWASHER IS ABSOLUTELY INFESTED. We have contacted Orkin in order to fumigate this infestation, however after several Orkin treatments the roaches have returned. The Orkin representative has agreed that there are infestations in the kitchen walls, dishwasher, under the sink, and in back of the refrigerator. LOGGING HIS STATEMENTS WITH HIS AGREEMENT is all you need to contact the Code Enforcement Inspector!!!! Management makes no effort to reimburse or refund for treatments of these roaches, as well as for the deficiency of water. ON THE OTHER HAND, The location is perfect for San Jose State University Students. The distance is practically the same from living on campus in dorm-facilities. The Colonnades are right around the corner from Camera 12 movie theaters, downtown San Jose, fine restaurants, the VTA lines, and anything else imaginable. THESE UNITS are extremely, EXTREMELY overpriced and management knows that San Jose State University Students can easily be taken advantage of by the location, and the outside view of these apartments. They do so and then hang out these unfortunate lessors after being locked into a lease because after moving out, several more potential tenants are in line awaiting the same unit. BEWARE! I rented from fall '07 through winter '08. ...

Ok. I'm rating this for my friends. It is right across the street from San Jose State, but the management is awful! They don't listen, avoid paperwork, and take advantage of the student population. They have also been sued multiple times and have settled out of court. DO NOT RENT HERE! I rented from summer '07 through summer '08. ...
