Ok, I've been living at the Orion at Hermosa Pointe for 2 years now, and when my wife and I went in to end our lease, not break it, mind you but give 30 days notice that we would not be renewing our lease, we were told that they had changed there 30 day notice to a 60 day notice and that because of this they were going to charge us for an extra month at the month-to-month rate which is much higher than we were paying. When we questioned this we were told "it was in your most recent lease, didnt you read it?". They have continued to be rude, contrary and downright unethical about the whole thing. So I decided that in light of the fact that I am now going to have to pay an extra months rent I should spend that time listing the problems with this apartment complex in detail. #1 Parking- It's a nightmare for anybody with more than 1 car. They provide you with one covered parking place, which half of the time is parked in by another tenant, and then refuse to have whoever is parked in your spot towed despite the "tow away" warning signs posted all over the place. Uncovered parking spots are few and far between and I have often found myself having to park in the shopping center south of the complex because it's actually closer to my apartment then the few uncovered parking spots left over on the north side of the complex. #2 Neighbors- While I have never had a personal problem with any of the neighbors I have witnessed the Police and fire-department in the complex at least once a week. It's always wonderful to watch one of your neighbors carted away in handcuffs. #3 Grounds- The apartment buildings look nice from far but are far from nice. All of the buildings exteriors are in a state of disrepair with paint peeling and in some cases the stucco has fallen off to reveal rusty metal beneath. I've personally had one of the dead trees in the complex fall on my front door during a wind storm, and while I realize this is an act of nature, the apartment maintenance should have removed the dead tree before it keeled over. #4 Maintenance- While the maintenance guys do do a good jobs of repairing when they repair or replace something, actually getting them to repair something takes an act of god. The outdoors barbecues have been broken (broken handles, grill in pieces, leaky gas hose, etc) since I've lived there. The gym equipment, specifically the tread mills, have been broken for 6 months and despite repeated assurances that they would be fixed, have never been brought back to working order. At one point we had a termite infestation and it took the apartment Management a month and a half to send someone because "we don't have a contract with a pest control company that works with termites." #5 The Staff- All sunshine and happiness until you sign on the dotted line. Then once they have you in a binding agreement, the customer service goes out the window. Seriously. In the argument about having to pay an extra month of rent for an empty apartment, I questioned the ethics of doing this to us and the Apartment Manager said "What does this have to do with Ethics? This is a business!" Truthfully I don't like being "that guy" and having to write a scathing review but seeing as being a good tenant that always pays the rent on time and causes no problems has ended with me being hit with an additional $1000.00+ fee I believe this deserves to be shared as a warning to others at the very least. Do NOT RENT HERE!!! I rented from spring '09 through spring 11. ...
